As cities expand, concrete replaces greenery, and natural water sources dry up. Birds and small animals, once able to find water in lakes and ponds, now struggle to survive. They fly tirelessly, searching for relief. Their beaks crack with thirst, their tiny bodies grow weak, and their calls for help go unheard.

Birds Struggling for Water in Cities

The scorching summer heat makes their search for water even more desperate. This happens every year—people notice, but they are busy with their lives, and the cries of these birds go unheard.

We wanted to help. A simple act—placing water pots on trees—could save lives. While anyone could do this, we aimed to make a bigger impact.

To reach more people and involve the community, we needed permission to set up the Kalpaka Foundation shelter tent in public spaces. This would serve as a hub for volunteers, spreading awareness and inspiring others to join our mission.

Ready Before the Green Light

Even before we went to the BBMP office on March 24 to seek approval for setting up our Kalpaka Foundation shelter tent, we had already begun our work.
On March 3, we ordered mud water pots from Prajapati Clay Handicrafts in Khurja, Uttar Pradesh.

We knew that waiting for permission shouldn’t mean delaying action. Lives were at stake, and we had to be prepared.

The shipment arrived on March 22, but almost 60 pots were broken. It was disappointing, but we didn’t let it stop us. Volunteers gathered to clean, soak, and prepare the pots before installation.
They painted and secured them with coir ropes, ensuring they were sturdy and safe for hanging. Every step was taken with care, knowing that each pot placed could mean survival for a thirsty bird or small animal.

Seeking Approval at BBMP

On March 24, 2025, we visited the BBMP office in Anjanapura Subdivision with a letter requesting permission.
Our goal was to tie water pots for birds and set up a temporary shelter tent at Sri Someshwara Sabha Bhavana in RBI Layout, places where many people gather, so they can learn about the cause we are fighting for.
We want people to join hands in our mission, become volunteers, and take action to do good.

We explained our plan to the Assistant Engineer at BBMP. Our commitment was clear—we would install the water pots responsibly, ensuring they were regularly refilled and maintained.

Keeping the area clean was a priority, and we assured them that all activities would be carried out without causing inconvenience.
The temporary shelter tent would serve as a space for volunteers and awareness efforts, and we promised to remove it after each use to maintain order in public spaces.
The official understood our purpose but said a site inspection was needed before granting approval. We shared our contact details and were told we would get an update soon.
If there was no response in two days, we planned to follow up. Meanwhile, we continued preparing for the event while awaiting approval.
This visit to the BBMP office began our ongoing efforts to secure the necessary permissions through follow-ups and communication.
